Savannah
One hour south of Twickenham Plantation is the historic city of Savannah, Georgia. Founded in 1733 by General James Edward Oglethorpe, Savannah was the first city established in Georgia and is considered the first planned city in America. The historic district was designed with wide open streets intertwined with a series of shady public squares. These beautiful squares, surrounded by stately mansions, create the thriving downtown historic area of Savannah even today. Downtown Savannah is also home to many cultural attractions and one of the premier schools for art and design in the country.
